This Dunhill Sterling Silver wick style trench lighter dates to the WWII era and has never been used . It is in its original box with instructions for usage . Extra replacement wicks are also included . This lighter appears to have never been used .
This type of military lighter was designed to minimize any visible flame that the enemy would be able to detect on the field of battle . The silver ball pulls the wick up and a turn of the flint wheel ignites the wick with a gentle glow . Pulling the wick down until the silver ball comes to a stop extinguishes the wick . When a new wick was needed , the chained ball could be pulled up again and a new length of wick would be exposed .
A fine collectible Dunhill lighter in working order and a nice addition to your militaria collection .
